Pass the Dice — Privacy Policy
Pass the Dice is an iPhone app for playing Farkle with people you know. It is made by Ryan Devine, trading as Newer Design. This page explains everything the app stores about you, who can see it, and how to get rid of it.
The short version. The app keeps your account, your games, and a running tally of who owes whom. There are no analytics, no advertising, no trackers, and no third-party marketing software of any kind. Nothing about you is sold or shared with anyone, and no money passes through the app.
What the app stores
Your account
- Email address and password — used to sign you in. The password is hashed by our authentication provider and is never visible to us in readable form.
- Username — how you appear at the table and how friends find you.
- Avatar — the emoji you pick, or a photo you choose to upload.
Optional, only if you add it
- Venmo username — a username only. Not a Venmo login, not an account connection, and not payment credentials. It exists so somebody who owes you can open Venmo with your name already filled in. You can remove it at any time in the app.
Your games
- Games you play, the dice rolled in them, scores, who won, and how.
- Who your friends are and which games you have been invited to.
- Reactions you send at the table.
- If your table plays for money: the running tally of who owes whom, and the record of a payment being claimed and confirmed. This is a record of something that happened elsewhere — see below.
Your device
- Push notification token — an anonymous identifier Apple gives us so we can tell you it is your turn. Turning notifications off in iOS Settings stops this. It is not a device fingerprint and cannot identify you outside this app.
What the app does not do
- No analytics or usage tracking software. None is installed.
- No advertising, no ad identifiers, no ad networks.
- No location data, no contacts, no photos beyond an avatar you deliberately choose.
- No selling, renting, or sharing of your information with anybody, for any purpose.
- No tracking of you across other apps or websites.
About Venmo
No money moves through this app, and the app has no connection to Venmo.
When a table plays for money, the app keeps a tally the same way a notepad would. Settling up happens between you and the other person, in cash or in Venmo — never here.
If you tap "Pay with Venmo", iOS opens the Venmo app and passes along three things you can see on screen first: the recipient's Venmo username, the amount you typed, and any note you wrote. That is the entire extent of the connection. We receive nothing back — not whether you sent it, not whether it arrived, not any detail of your Venmo account. That is why the person receiving the money has to confirm it in the app before the tally clears.
Once you are in Venmo, Venmo's own privacy policy applies, not this one.
Who can see what
- Your username and avatar are visible to other signed-in players, so people can find you and add you as a friend.
- Your game history and tallies are visible to the people you played those games with.
- Your Venmo username is shown only to people who actually owe you money or are owed money by you. It is not searchable, not browsable, and not visible to players you have no balance with.
- Your email address is never shown to other players.
Who else is involved
Two service providers, both used only to make the app work:
- Supabase hosts the database, the sign-in system, and avatar images.
- Apple Push Notification service delivers turn notifications to your phone.
Neither is given your information for their own purposes, and there are no other processors, vendors, or partners.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account from inside the app: tap your avatar, then Delete account. It asks you to confirm, and it cannot be undone.
Deleting removes your profile, email, username, avatar, Venmo username, device tokens, friendships, and invitations. Games you played in are kept, because they belong to everyone who was at the table — but your name is removed from them and you appear only as a former player. Any outstanding tally involving you is cleared at the same time, so nobody is left owing a deleted account.
If you would rather ask us to do it, email newerdesign.co@gmail.com from the address on the account and we will delete it within 30 days.
How long things are kept
Your account and games are kept for as long as the account exists. Push tokens are discarded when they stop working or when you sign out. Once you delete your account, the data listed above is removed from the live database immediately and from encrypted backups within 30 days.
Children
Pass the Dice is not directed to children and is rated for adults. Please do not create an account if you are under 18. If you believe a child has created one, email us and we will remove it.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask what we hold about you, ask for a copy of it, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email newerdesign.co@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days. We will never charge you for this or treat you differently for asking. We do not sell personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, the date at the top changes and the app will tell you the next time you open it. Continuing to use the app after that means the new version applies.
